Trump Announces $100,000 Fee on H-1B Visas Indian Workers Most Affected

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a new annual $100,000 fee on H-1B visas. This decision is expected to affect Indian workers the most, as well as the U.S. technology industry. According to official data, 71% of all H-1B visas are issued to Indian citizens, while China comes second with only 11.7%. California remains the largest hub for H-1B visa holders.

The new fee will take effect from Sunday. At first, it will apply for one year, but Trump also has the option to extend it further. Check Date Extended for Chief Minister’s Honhaar Undergraduate Scholarship Program 2025.

Gold Card Residency Program for the Wealthy

Along with the new fee, Trump also announced a special “Gold Card” residency scheme worth $1 million. This program will allow wealthy individuals to secure long-term residency in the United States through investment.

Concerns in the Technology Industry

The announcement has raised concerns among U.S. tech companies and industry experts, including Elon Musk. They argue that the U.S. already faces a shortage of local skilled talent, and adding such a heavy fee will make it harder for companies to bring in highly skilled professionals from abroad.

India’s Official Response

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has strongly criticized the decision. According to the ministry, the move could have serious humanitarian impacts, including the risk of families being separated. New Delhi also expressed hope that American authorities will review the decision carefully and work toward a fair solution.

Summary

Trump’s decision brings serious challenges for both Indian workers and the U.S. technology industry. On one side, thousands of Indian professionals and their families will face heavy financial pressure. On the other side, wealthy investors are being given a new and easier route to U.S. residency through the Gold Card program.
